1984
1984年，我校创立工业设计学科，至今已有30多年历史，是上海高校里最早成立该专业的院校之一，为艺术设计与传媒学院创立奠定基础。
The Art Design and Media School was set up in 1984 with the discipline of industrial design, which was one of the earliest programs of higher education in Shanghai.
1991
1991年，华东理工大学工业设计系举办了“91工业设计学科多国研讨会”，这是我国最早举办的工业设计学科国际会议之一，当时在社会上产生了巨大影响。
In 1991, the Industrial Design Department of ECUST held the“91 Multinational Industrial Design Forum”,one of the first international industrial design conferences in China , which had a profound social influence.
2001
2001年5月，以工业设计系为主干，联合艺术设计专业、文化素质教育中心等成立了文化艺术学院。
School of Culture and Arts was founded In May, 2001, fundamentally based on the Industrial Design Department, and integrated with Art Design Department, Cultural Quality Education Center, etc.
2005
2005年因学校文科院系调整，将文化素质教育中心划归人文科学研究院，并将学院更名为艺术设计与传媒学院。
In 2005, with the liberal Arts Reform of the University, the Cultural Quality Education Center was transformed into the Institute of Art and Science, and the school was renamed as The Art Design and Media School.
2008
2008年2月,艺术设计与传媒学院、院长程建新教授和客座教授、日本千叶大学副校长宫崎清先生（唯一的外国专家当选）首批入选“影响上海设计发展进程的100位(个)设计师及设计机构”。
In February, 2008, the dean of the School of Art Design and Media ，Professor Cheng Jianxin, and Vice President of Chiba University (Japan) Mr. Miyazaki who is also the visiting professor, were selected in the 100 significant Designers or Organizations contribute to Shanghai Design Development., which is the only foreign winner in selection.
2009
2009年12月, 中国工业设计协会第四届理事会第一次全体会议选举产生了新一届领导班子。学院程建新教授当选副会长，学院设计专业的社会影响力得到提升。
The new leadership was elected on the first plenary session of the Fourth Council of the China Industrial Design Association in December 2009. Professor Cheng Jianxin of SADM was elected vice president, which greatly enhanced the Institute's social influence.
2010
2010年4月，传媒系创立，下设广告学专业。2010年4月，学院提交的上海世博会方案“轻盈舞飞，无障碍城市”获杰出设计奖，同时华东理工大学获得唯一的最佳组织奖。成为唯一获此殊荣的高校。
In April 2010, Media Department was founded with Advertisement. And the proposal of Shanghai EXPO as “Dance free, City barrier-free” was granted the prized of outstanding design, at the same time, East China University of Science and Technology was the only one to win the best organization which is the only one getting the honor.
2011
2011年，学院在一级学科硕士点“设计学”和二级学科博士点“工业设计”的申请上获得成功，提升了学院的研究生教育和培养层次，促进了学院向研究型的转化。 学院成立“设计立县研究中心”，大力推动“设计立县”计划。该计划开创了设计服务地域产业转型发展的新模式，得到政府相关部门和社会的充分肯定和支持。10月24日《解放日报》头版头条对“设计立县”计划进行了报道。
In 2011, the application of first rate discipline of master degree program design learning and second rate discipline of doctoral program the industrial design got pass. This upgrading expressed the identification and achievement of postgraduates education. SADM founded the Institute of Design promote the economic development of small and medium-sized cities and accelerated tremendously the research. The research create a new model of a design services for local industrial restructuring and development, which get the full recognition and support of the relevant government departments and social. The newspaper of the Liberation Daily which is commonly read in china reported the research on headlines on October 24, 2011.
2012
2012年，经教育部批准，新增景观学本科专业，并当年秋季正式招生。学院参加“2011协同创新计划”——上海创意产业协同创新中心的申建，领衔工业设计分中心（四大分中心之一）的建设。
In 2012, approved by the Ministry of Education, Landscape Science was added as a new program and started in 2012 autumn. SADM participated in the application for the construction of the 2011 Collaborative Innovation Plan of Shanghai Creative Industry Cooperative Innovation Center and led the construction of the industrial design center (one of the four sub-centers).
2013
2013年，教育部通过了景观规划设计二级学科硕士点公示，标志着学院研究生教育又有了一个新的增长点。
In 2013, approved by the Ministry of Education, Landscape Planning and Design was added as a new graduate program. It marks a new growth point of the postgraduate education in the school.
2015
2015年，艺术设计与传媒学院正式加入Cumulus（国际艺术设计与媒体院校联盟）。2015年，经教育部批准，新增数字媒体艺术本科专业，并当年秋季正式招生。
In 2015, School of Art design and Media was officially joined the CULUMUS (International Association of Universities and colleges of Art, Design and Media). In 2015, approved by the Ministry of Education, Digital Media Arts was added as a new program and started in 2015 autumn.
2017
2017年1月，艺术设计与传媒学院作为协同高校进入上海市设计学IV类高峰学科建设平台。程建新教授受聘为产品与品牌创新设计方向首席科学家。
In January 2017, School of Art design and Media entered into the Shanghai Institute of Design Class IV peak construction platform as a collaborative college. Professor Cheng Jianxin was appointed as chief scientist in product and brand innovation design direction.
